What The Waukee Brief is, and who it is for.

The Waukee Brief is a free local newsletter and website for Waukee, Iowa. I started it for a simple reason: everything worth knowing about this town was scattered across a dozen Facebook pages, city PDFs, and word of mouth, and nobody had put it in one place. So we did. One short email on Monday mornings, plus a growing library of local guides, so you can stop digging and just decide.

How it works

Free, always. No account, no paywall, no catch. The email goes out every Monday at 7 AM, and we build it to read in about five minutes. Between issues, this site holds 80-plus local guides and a few tools we made to answer the questions we kept asking ourselves: where to eat tonight, what to do this weekend, which trail, which fishing spot, and the practical stuff about living here.

Independent and local

The Waukee Brief is independent. No newspaper chain, no TV station, no out-of-state media company, and nobody tells us what to cover. It stays deliberately behind the scenes, too: this is about Waukee, not about us. We built it for the people who pay attention to this town: new families deciding where to land, longtime residents keeping tabs on what is changing, and everyone who just wants to know what is for dinner and what is going on this weekend.

So how is it free? Local sponsors. When a business sponsors the Brief, we always label it clearly as sponsored, and it never changes what we write or what we recommend. The words are ours.

How we handle facts

We run on real, checkable local information: city and county records, official sources, and firsthand local knowledge. When we are not sure about something, we leave it out rather than guess. And if we get something wrong, we want to fix it, fast. Email us and we will.
